"HURRY!" a familiar voice called out, her brother’s voice she realizes. "Emi! We’re going to miss them if you don’t get up and hurry!" he whines as he shakes her to make her wake up. "I’m awake, I’m awake, so stop shaking me already." Emi mumbled to her younger brother. "Such a nuisance, this happens every year." Emi thinks to herself as she sighs and sits up on the bed. "What time is it?" she asked her brother. "Six twenty-eight in the evening." He replies. Emi stands up, and heads for the bathroom, "We still have a couple hours; plenty of time before they leave." She says. "But you always take so long to get ready!" He argues. She pauses, thinking for a moment. "Fine. Go make supper while I get ready." She tell him as she walks into the bathroom. "Why do I have to make supper!" he complains. "Because, you want to get there in time to see them off don’t you?" she says to him with amusement. "You’re such a bully!" he shouts as he stomps off downstairs. "Ahh, finally, I can have a shower now." She says to herself as she smiles and closes the bathroom door.

"EMI! WE’RE GOING TO BE LATE!" He cries out to her. "Well if you had gotten a chain instead of rope then the dog wouldn’t have gotten loose, and we wouldn’t be in such a rush." She says to him as they run to the lake. "Yeah but if you didn’t take so long to get ready we wouldn’t be in a rush!" he complains. "Do you two need a lift somewhere? You seem like you’re in quite a rush." Says an unfamiliar voice. Emi and her brother stop, and a truck pulls up. "Uh, yeah, we’re heading to the lake, to watch the swans. They only come once a year for mating." She says, and then she sees him, the man driving the truck. He looks about her age, 17, messy dark brown hair, like the colour of roasted chestnuts, his eyes, blue, with flexes of green, and that smile, his smile alone just makes her want to melt. All she could think about was what his tender kisses would feel on her lips… "I think she likes you." A voice says. And then she realizes that she’s just standing there, mouth hanging open a bit and just staring at the boy. "What!? Don’t be stupid! I was just thinking about something and got distracted!" She protests, and they get into the truck. "So what’s your name stranger?" she says to her crush. "The name’s Aither, means pure upper air, you know, the stuff only God’s breathe" he answers as he smiles at her, "So what’s your names’?" he asks. "My name is Emi, and my brother’s name is Nolan." She replies. "Oh, Emi means Beautiful picture, and Nolan means Little champion." He says, pleased with his knowledge. "So why do you want to see the swans mate?" he asks with a puzzled look. "We don’t want to see them mate, we just want to watch their mating dance. Father always took mom and us to watch it every year." Nolan explains. "So how come your dad isn’t taking you this year?" he questions. Emi and Nolan fall silent, not wanting to really talk about it. "Car accident. Three years ago." Emi says quietly. Aither face saddens."Oh… I’m sorry I di-" "WE’RE HERE!" Nolan interrupts.
Nolan jumps out of the truck before Aither can even fully stop, and runs thru the crowd of people to watch the swans. Aither and Emi stay in the truck at they watch Nolan with amusement. "So, Emi, can I ask you something?" he says. "I thought you just did." She replies, smiling, pleased with her reply. Aither smiles and laughs, and Emi’s body tingles at the sound of his laughter. "I will take that as a yes." He says "so, what was it that you were thinking? When I picked you and your brother up, that got you so distracted?" he asks as he shifts in his seat so he can face her better, and smiles wider with a playful look in his eyes. "N-nothing!" she protests, as her face turns red and she looks away. Aither lets out a low laugh that makes her heart pound. "Are you sure, that it wasn’t… This?" he says, as he leans towards her… closer, and closer…
